As part of the celebrations of Christmas and the New Year, the City Council of Tavira has planned a program that promises to enliven its citizens and all those who visit the county.

Music is the motto of the celebrations, and so, on December 06 at 12:00, in Mercado da Ribeira, the Academy of Music Children’s Choir begins the animation of Christmas, repeating on days 13 and 23 and on days 20 and 22 in the City Hall building.

Also the concerts included in the program “Music in the Churches” will give color to this time of the year, in Igreja da Misericórdia, always at 18:00, we will have concerts on the 6th, 13rd, 20th and 27th.

On the 19th, Friday, at 17:30, Igreja da Misericórdia opens its doors to the group Gospel Choir with the concert “Happy Day!”.

The Gregorian choir of Lisbon, the Coral Group of Tavira and the Psalyte Chorus are the groups that will be present at the concert of Christmas on the 20th in Igreja do Carmo at 21:30.

Already on the 22nd, at 17:30 in Igreja do Carmo, you can watch the singing recital and soloist instruments by Sacrum Presepium. On the 23rd, at 17:30, will take place the recital of the Intermezzo Quartet, and on the 24th, at 15.00, also in Igreja da Misericórdia, is held the classic concert of Birgit Wegemann (soprano) and Irene Ainstein (piano).

Finalizing the festivities, on 31st of December, from 22:00 in Praça da Republica, the Orchestra Six of Portugal says goodbye to 2008 with the midnight fireworks welcoming the new year.
