Holidays in Tavira are addictive. It’s no wonder; the region resorts have held attractions for long enough which work their magic to ensure that many of the regular and new visitors return again and again, and almost everyone who takes their holidays in Tavira holds fond memories of the place for years to come, usually sharing with friends and family.

Here you will be able to find most of the information that will help make your holiday planning easier and funnier. I’ll share with you important things you should know, like how to get to Tavira, or the best accommodation facilities that suit your needs, as well an overview of the best beaches and golf courses around the city that you definitely shouldn’t miss. Tavira has grown very much in quality in the last decade, and the best is that it managed to keep its original characteristics that make it one of the most unique and beautiful cities in the Algarve.

Tavira is not yet the “madness” of Albufeira or Vilamoura, it’s a much quieter and relaxed place — and let’s hope it remains like that. The heart of the city and places like Cabanas de Tavira, or Santa Luzia are among the most popular choices when it comes to decide where to stay. Therefore I recommend you book your holidays well in advance and early in the year (e.g. around February/March) and not to leave it for the last minute (believe me!), like it should be done in every popular Algarve holidays destination.

While I was in Tavira this Summer I noticed that the number of tourists keeps increasing despite of the actual financial conditions in general, and that when it comes to pick a good place to stay or to eat, the best places are always booked. Another thing I noticed is that tourists tend to go to the beach in the worst time possible, exposing themselves to serious and dangerous solar burnings. The Sun in the Algarve is very strong, even when the weather is cloudy, the region easily reaches over 35 Celsius. To best enjoy the beach without getting seriously and dangerously burned you should avoid being in the Sun between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. and don’t forget to use plenty of sunscreen, and you will still manage to get a nice tan and your friends will be able to tap you on your back without hearing you scream in pain.

Nevertheless there are a few things that you should try besides the beach, and not everyone enjoys when coming to Tavira. There is a very complete choice of guided tours and recommended activities to do and places to see. But if you want a taste of what is Tavira you should definitely watch a few videos like:

Tavira Eastern Algarve

The Ria Formosa

and the soul of Tavira The Tuna Run

As you might have noticed there is something different here since yesterday… Yes I changed domain name… again! – I hear your thoughts already: Why, why… why? or, Come on man! Decide what you want…

Well, that is the fact, and it’s not about what I want, but about what YOU want. You might have come accross a post I did before accross similar lines. At that time there were many good domain names taken and not being used, they were just being exploited by domainers that buy loads of nice domains just to sell them after for an inflated price to the less savvy. I got visit-tavira.com, it was good, and much better than the old one, but it was not enough there was someone else owning the same name with a different word structure, and I wanted to get away from it; for a while I waited hoping the name would drop and I could get it without having to pay exploitation of interest, but it’s clear the owner has no intention of letting it go.

Luckily, I got luckier than the lucky :) and TaviraGuide.com came into my hands – this time together with the closer variations. A much better name that defines what this site is about and what my readers are looking for; the content will be in the the same place, the dashes are gone and it’s very straight forward because my visitors often search in Google for Tavira Guide or Guide to Tavira… If you prefer you can still be using the old one, it will take you here as well, just it will gradually disappear from the search engines while TaviraGuide.com takes its place, and will be only accessible directly typing it in your browser’s address bar.

So as you see the change is all about what you want, improving and adapting to be more targeted to your needs. Hope it won’t be any hassle to you, you can even keep your bookmarks :)

New posts will be coming soon!

The results are in, after 5 months and 135 votes. It’s great to see that so many of you are regular visitors to Tavira. It’s flattering to see as a native, that the number of people that never went but are interested is by far bigger than the number of people not interested — and yet they searched for Tavira… hum!

Poll started in May 1st 2008

Well, a new poll is also in and this time is a bit more subjective. What do you most like about Tavira? Is it because it’s different from the most cities in the Algarve Region? …Or because it’s touristically unspoilled? Maybe you can’t stop thinking about the gastronomy… or the wonderful surrounding beaches…

…or maybe it’s even something else.

So don’t be shy and cast your vote, and if you are not happy with the choices given leave a comment here and tell us what you most like about Tavira.
