After July, August is one of the most intense months in the Algarve. And if you are in Tavira (or near) around this time, there are a couple of event you shouldn’t miss.
32nd International Folklore Festival of Luz de Tavira
There will be groups from: Lithuania, Panama, Northern Cyprus; and other national presences like: Pinhal Novo, Abrantes, Setúbal and Luz (Tavira).
21st of August: Dance with the group Duo Ângelo e Jaime and performance by a folklore group.
22nd of August: International Folklore Festival

Sand Constructions
The 52nd edition of the Sand Construction competition, an initiative organized by the Diário de Notícias newspaper, will bring fun to Tavira Island beach on August 8. Children and youngsters between the ages of 6 and 14 will be able to participate in this competition after a prior enrolment at the island’s camping park reception.
This event will also include an “Atelier de Construção na Areia” (Sand Construction Workshop) where those who are interested will have the opportunity to improve their skills concerning the art of moulding the sand.

Praia das Cascas – Ilha de Tavira
Similar to last year’s event “Aqui há Ostra”, Tavira hosts once again this year the 2nd Oyster Festival. The event is perfect for shellfish lovers and will take place between the 22nd and 26th of July. It will also be possible to have a taste of other different kinds of seafood, a great opportunity to get acquainted with the excellent quality of Ria Formosa diversity.

An event to publicize the oysters from Ria Formosa (80% of national production comes from this area of great environmental value) and promote its consumption.
It will have several spaces that will allow seafood gastronomy lovers to taste delicious oyster, clam, razor-shell clam and other seafood dishes, while being entertained by the “voices” of accordion.

It’s June, and it means that is THE month to be in Tavira if you want to see all the traditional festivities. The official day of the city is on the 24th of June, and until then festivities about the popular Saints will be in the daily agenda.

Apart from the usual festivities, spread across the council, Tavira will once again be the stage for the street parades, on the 23rd at the Praça da República, and on the 27th at the Dr. Eduardo Mansinho Municipal Pavilion, at 9.30 pm.
